EMDR

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an eight-phase, evidence-based psychotherapy that alleviates emotional distress associated with traumatic memories and experiences.

Many studies over decades have shown EMDR to be effective for a large number of mental health issues, including, but not limited to, PTSD, CPTSD, traumatic memories, war-time PTSD and first responder trauma, relational trauma and more.
There are many “protocols” in the EMDR therapy space, including protocols for using EMDR therapy for addiction, recent traumatic experiences, life-long traumatic memories, children and adolescents, physical pain, phobias and more. Since the 1990’s EMDR therapy has stood the test of time with a very large client base with widely varied mental health concerns.

Although the name implies that “Eye Movements” are a critical part of the therapy, your therapist may introduce other techniques that seem to be as effective for creating the same “bilateral stimulation” of the brain while reprocessing traumatic memories and experiences. Working with your therapist, you’ll find ways to quickly reprocess memories and move through the trauma – releasing the traumatic effect and creating relief in your system.
